The Dawson College graphic design program is where students are taught many skills that shape them into passionate designers. Throughout 3 years, students explore many aspects of design and get prepared to tackle the working world. On a more personal note, it’s where I got to meet some of my best friends, work with a group of very talented creatives and develop a love for design. This publication gives potential students insight on the program, as well as real advice from current students and teachers.
To properly create this publication, lots of planning and art direction were necessary. I knew that I wanted an editorial magazine inspired look, using high flash film pictures of my classmates and of our work environment. This involved planning photoshoots and set ups. (And having to wait until the development of the film to see the pictures, which was definitely a stressful experience).
For the content, I interviewed as many students and teachers as possible to really give the book an authentic feel by having various points of views and experiences related to the program. (A very special thanks to all my lovely colleagues who collaborated, you guys are the best!) Shooting on film was a risk that I am very glad I took because it gave my book a unique tone that feels like a great representation of Dawson’s graphic design program.
